Top Pan-African e-commerce platform, Jumia Group, has announced the appointment of Diana Owusu-Kyereko as its new female CEO, for its Ghanaian outpost.
Owusu-Kyereko succeeds Ore Odusanya, who served as country manager of the marketplace since 2016.
BRIEF PROFILE OF DIANA OWUSU-KYEREKO
Diana had her undergraduate education in the University of Leeds where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in German and Social Sciences. Afterwards, she obtained her Masters degree in Management, Organisations and Governance, Business Administration and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Diana began working as an underwriting intern for Alliaz Reinsurance in Munich, Germany. She worked with the company from 2008 to 2011 before she moved on to Wimdu.
At Wimdu, Diana worked as a business development manager from 2011 to 2012. She was part of the growth process for the Rocket Internet-backed startup. From her managerial position, Diana switched over to Ringier Ghana, where she worked as a General Manager for eleven months.
From November 2015, Diana started working with the Jumia Group. She began as the Mobile and Tablets Manager for Jumia Nigeria headquartered in Lagos. She worked in this role until December 2015 when she was promoted.
Diana Owusu-Kyereko became the director of Mobile and Tablet for Jumia Africa and she functioned in this role until May 2017 when she was reassigned.
In June of the same year, she began work as the Chief Commercial Officer for Jumia Kenya. She worked in the role until January 2020 when she was promoted to head the Ghanaian team as the Chief Executive Officer of Jumia Ghana.
According to Jumia Africa, Diana’s addition further cements Jumia’s claim that 40% of its leadership positions are held by women such as managers, MDs, and CEOs.
