As part of efforts to encourage more girls to pursue careers in Information Technology and engineering, the Women in Information and Engineering (WITE) collaboration with Women Tech Makers, Py Ladies, Facebook Developer Circles and Dev In Vogue over the weekend held a mentorship programme in Accra.
The event hosted by the GIMPA School of Technology to mark International Women’s Day, is to encourage and motivate young girls from Junior High School (JHS), Senior High School (SHS) and tertiary institutions to consider IT and engineering as future careers.
The program held on the theme: ‘I am remarkable’ saw female in IT and engineers share inspiring career stories in the technology industry and encouraged the young female students to love and challenge themselves in the IT sector.
There was also an empowerment seminar and technical training sessions where participants from Achimota school, Wesley Grammar, O’reilly, Christian Academy and other SHS schools were introduced to concepts of computer programming, embedded systems development using Arduino and many others.
The only female lecturer at the GIMPA School of Technology, Felicia Engman in an interveiw said, the event is empower young girls to consider careers in the growing field of IT and engineering.
