Youth IGF-Liberia chapter Leader wins ICANN Fellowship

Youth Internet Governance Forum, Youth IGF -Liberia to be launch in Monrovia to promote Liberian students through Technology.

A young Liberian ICT 4Development advocate, Peterking Quaye won the fellowship this year, he becomes the 2nd Liberian in the history of the award from Liberia was selection from a poll of over 2,000 applications from across the world and was among 44 candidates from 60 countries . Over the past year Peterking has led many local and continent ICT platform sharing best practice and speaking on Internet Governance ,Safer Internet and children online Protection as well Internet .

Peterking is the chapter leader of the Youth Internet Governance Forum, a platform expected to be launch officially this year to buttress government’s efforts in providing quality ICT/Digital education, youth participation in ICT, the hosting of the annual youth internet governance forum –Liberia.

The ICANN Fellowship program seeks out those who are interested in, or already engaged in, the various components of ICANN’s work in policy building, the operation of the Domain Name System and the security and stability of the global Internet. The goal of the program is to help create a broader base of knowledgeable constituents to engage in the ICANN multistakeholder process and become the new voice of experience in their regions and on the global stage.

Since its creation in 2007, the Fellowship program has built a strong group of individuals who are actively participating in all of the ICANN communities as well as various Internet governance entities within the Internet ecosystem.

Their engagement ranges from writing articles and blogs, providing online or in-person public comment in regard to bottom-up policy building, engaging in Internet conferences and panel discussions, participating in working groups, mentoring newcomers, assisting our regional leaders and becoming leaders themselves.

The country Director of the project, Peterking Quaye said the new venture launch in Monrovia will provide the opportunity where young people can make vital use of the internet.

Quaye who just returned from Abu Dhabi, UAE after attending the ICANN60 meeting as Liberia’s Youth IGF Ambassador .His project expansion will look at working with regulators in Liberia, promotion internet base project in Liberia, research on the level of digital awareness in Liberia, as well as host the safer internet day 2018. He is also calling in stakeholders to support these initiative as it will help in education the youth in Liberia and promote the country among the world digital enhanced countries. He asserted that too often the internet has only being used for social interaction which he believes which the organization intends to address by showcasing numerous ways to make important use of the space.

According to him, the initiative will be implemented in the various high schools and colleges where students will be recruited into the different ICANN program.

The Country Director of the organization is at the same time challenging Young people to take advantage of the ongoing venture and explore on critical components of the internet space. Peterking Quaye asserted that if Liberian youths are to get on pal with their counterparts in the sub region and Africa at large, it will be prudent to join the initiative.
