Vodacom South Africa said it is prepared for the dramatic increase in network traffic over the holiday season. The operator said it has done a lot of work over the past six months to ensure its mobile network can handle the increased traffic volumes. According to Vodacom, tourism experts are forecasting a bumper festive season this year and the mobile data traffic is likely to more than double in certain places as a result.
Vodacom said its data volumes increased by 50 percent across the country over the same period in 2016. The company has deployed 100 new mobile base stations to provide increased coverage and capacity in high-volume areas. Vodacom invested ZAR 4 billion in network infrastructure for the six months ended September, maintaining its lead in population coverage across its 2G, 3G, and 4G networks.
