Worried by the incessant complaints from telecommunication consumers across the country, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has assured consumers that it would protect them from such excesses.
“We will do everything possible within our power to protect telecom consumers from exploitation by the service providers,” said Dr. Femi Atoyebi, Deputy Director of the Bureau, who represented Mr. Abdullahi Maikano, Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau of the Commission at the 78th edition of the commission’s Consumer Outreach Programme, held in Kano.
According to him, the sensitisation campaign was necessary to educate telecom consumers about their rights in the communication industry.
He explained that the outreach was purposely aimed at bringing together service providers, consumers and NCC, the regulatory agency.
The Director disclosed that the Commission has developed series of initiatives, with the aim of providing consumers with the necessary and basic information for their rights’ protection, when they were become educated and informed.
On his part, the Zonal Head of the Commission, Adamu Amshi, said, “before the establishment of the Commission, only 450,000 GSM lines were being used in the country, but now, we have more than 150 million active lines.
