Information and Communications Technology training institution, New Horizons and Caleb University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate international ICT and e-business certifications into the university’s academic curricular.

Prof. Diji Aina, Vice Chancellor of the university, said the programme would accord the students several opportunities, irrespective of their academic disciplines. “With this, the relevant university staff members will also enjoy periodic staff training,” he said.

Aina further stated that the seamless mandatory schedule would guarantee that every student of the university would undergo specialised international certification-based professional Information Technology and e-business skills training. “From the trainings, they will acquire a minimum of four international professional licences in lucrative technologies,” the vice chancellor said.

He said, “They will also get opportunities to become self-employed as specialists and consultants in these globally hot skills and certification areas.”

In the same vein, the Managing Director, New Horizons Nigeria, Mr. Tim Akano, restated the necessity for such strategic synergies between the academics and the industry in this information age. “This will make the university regain and fulfil its traditional role of serving as the manufacturing/incubating house for production of future fully -baked graduates empowered with both academic excellence and ICT-driven professional competences for both the employment and self- employment industry,” he said.

Prof. Diji Aina reasoned that given the global economic challenges and the “shrinking” employment opportunities worldwide, and Nigeria in particular, Caleb University graduates would be able to use the extra-validated professional skills-set as the “icing on their B.Sc and B.A academic cakes to become the toast of the employers for lucrative jobs.”

Akano equally recapped that the programme would further serve to augment the Webometric ranking of the university. “The training infrastructure to be supplied by New Horizons, including 100 personal computers, Smart interactive boards, networking, original high-end software, and top international professional skills and certifications like: Androids, Robotics, CISA, Oracle, Java Programming, Multimedia, Information Security, etc, constitute variables that will boost the IT-driven stance of Caleb University as part of the global ranking metrics,” he said.
